Discover how POSEIDON is bringing maritime innovation to the heart of a summer music festival. At Cabo de Pop 2025, science meets the sea in a free public activity that reveals the hidden impact of shipping—and what we can do about it. Registration is now open.

POSEIDON invites the public to join its decarbonisation talk

POSEIDON is thrilled to take part in Cabo de Pop 2025, the eighth edition of the multidisciplinary festival that blends music, culture and environmental awareness in the stunning coastal setting of the Cabo de Palos Lighthouse in Cartagena, Murcia.

The event was officially presented this week at Cartagena City Hall, where institutional representatives, organisers and partners gathered to unveil this year’s programme. During the session, the Naval and Marine Technology Centre (CTN)—coordinator of the POSEIDON project—highlighted its role in delivering educational outreach activities that bring cutting-edge maritime science to the general public.

Set to take place on 15 and 16 August, Cabo de Pop will once again serve as a platform for meaningful dialogue between citizens, science, and the environment.

Ocean Decarbonisation: A Hands-On Talk on the Future of Shipping

POSEIDON will lead a free and engaging activity titled “Ocean Decarbonisation”, designed to raise awareness about the environmental impact of maritime transport—and how innovative technologies can help reduce it.

This open talk will invite festival-goers to explore:

  • How the growth of online shopping affects our oceans.
  • What technologies—like those developed by POSEIDON—can do to cut maritime emissions.
  • How we can track the interaction between maritime traffic and sensitive marine habitats.

Participants will also experience a live demo of a digital tool created by CTN under the LifePortSounds initiative. This tool visualises real-time ship movements and their proximity to critical areas such as cetacean habitats, showing how data can support cleaner and more conscious shipping practices.
