POSEIDON’s innovations continue to shape a greener future at sea
As part of our “Did You Know?” campaign in social media this month, we’re highlighting the latest developments from the POSEIDON Project, which has been driving progress in maritime decarbonisation and energy efficiency since its launch back in 2023.
What is POSEIDON doing now?
The EU-funded POSEIDON Project is pioneering solutions that reduce harmful emissions and make shipping more sustainable and cost-effective. Our ongoing work focuses on:
🎯 Developing advanced energy storage systems for ships.
🎯 Integrating Life Cycle Cost (LCC) and environmental impact assessments (LCA) to guide smart design choices.
🎯 Enhancing collaboration among scientists, engineers, and communities to support the energy transition at sea.

These activities align with the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) greenhouse gas reduction targets (IMO GHG Strategy) and the European Commission’s initiatives on green maritime transport (European Commission – Green Maritime Transport).
By continuing to develop innovative technologies and promote collaboration, the POSEIDON Project aims to drive lasting progress in maritime decarbonisation and contribute to a more sustainable future for global shipping.
