A meaningful exchange around clean shipping and community action

A few weeks ago, POSEIDON participated in the I Sustainable & Solidarity Cup, a unique regatta event held as part of the Manga Festival 2025 in Puerto Deportivo Tomás Maestre (Murcia, Spain).

This community-driven gathering brought together sport, solidarity, and sustainability in a vibrant coastal setting — and POSEIDON was proud to contribute by sparking dialogue around a topic that affects us all: maritime decarbonisation.

The project’s presence focused on a citizen-oriented talk titled «Ocean Decarbonisation», which drew considerable attention and interest from attendees of all ages.

The session highlighted how everyday actions — like online shopping — are closely tied to a global logistics chain that leaves a measurable carbon footprint on our seas.

Turning data into awareness through digital visualisation

To help bring this reality closer to home, the session was complemented by an interactive digital tool developed by CTN, POSEIDON’s coordinating entity, within the LifePortSounds project. Visitors explored features such as:

  • Simulation of predictive scenarios;
  • Customisable speed alerts in sensitive marine areas;
  • Insights into underwater noise and its impact on marine life.

The tool helped transform abstract data into an experience — one that connected citizens with the hidden dynamics of maritime transport and its environmental impact. The response was overwhelmingly positive, reinforcing POSEIDON’s belief that public engagement is key to climate action at sea.

POSEIDON’s participation in the Sustainable & Solidarity Cup was a powerful reminder that innovation, outreach, and local events can — and must — work hand in hand to create momentum toward a cleaner, more conscious maritime future.
